Welcome back. I had planned on the Friday preview / Monday commentary “system” this week like I’ve done for the past two, but, hectic week and I forgot.
This week’s pick is from last August. It is a Crybin variant Petrarchan with a mirrored sestet, ABBACDDC EFGGFE.
Let Go, Let God #122 We watch the world through lenses, sometimes clear. As shores are battered by the stormy sea Life too sometimes assaults tranquility. God's wisdom in our hearts removes all fear. Watch bitter waters drawn from seas afar Be dropped upon a parched and distant land Now sweetened by a loving God's command. If not for Him, ‘twould not this seem bizarre? They say, let go, let God, then all is good. It's true, but to relinquish seems a chore Beyond our capabilities at times. I try to help, disseminating rhymes For fear is something that we should deplore. With Providence all things are understood. Frank Garnick © Copyright The Archer's March 05 August 2022
Yes, I mention God again. I hope that you are all used to this, because my writing is honest and it’s me. This won’t change. You are free to read anything you’d like into my work, apply any definition to words that fits into your world view. I am not preaching to anyone, I am merely sharing my thoughts.
The lenses with which we view the world are as varied as we all are. Not only that, but our own personal lenses change according to our circumstances and moods. Oftentimes our vision is unclouded, and in those times our path forward is clear. At those moments we don’t stumble in our march toward achieving our goals, large or small. As we’ve all encountered in our lives, however, that lens is sometimes a bit fuzzy. Our peace of mind is challenged, as if rough surf is crashing in upon us as we stroll upon the strand. God’s wisdom can be accessed by looking at the workings of His world. Imbibing that wisdom reduces fear and uncertainty. I illustrate this (not the first or last time, either) with the example of the Water Cycle. That cycle makes perfect sense from a scientific point of view. Yes, we know that evaporation lifts water but not the dissolved salts in that water. I would just ask that you think of that in a more esoteric vein. Is it not “miraculous” that the vast cisterns of undrinkable salt water that encircle our planet are the very wellspring from which our fresh water rises from? And that taken up into the atmosphere, are transported thousands of miles away to “Be dropped upon a parched and distant land.” I see nothing unscientific in viewing scientific phenomena in a spiritual, or poetic light. I am a poet, right?
The title derives from the Volta. “God’s wisdom in our hearts removes all fear.” When we let go and let God we are humbling ourselves.
Everyone who is arrogant of heart is an abomination to the Lord - Proverbs 16:5
We don’t have all the answers all the time, and in those times when we don’t have them, let go. Relinquish control from that which we don’t have control over anyway. At the end of the day, the only thing we DO control is our own mind. I agree that it’s often difficult to do in the moment of crisis. I write, in part, to teach myself how to let go. In letting go, we sometimes find the answer right in front of us that was obscured by the sense of me, me, me.

True story!
Never a truer word. I would not worry about 'preaching'. People of faith are too reticent these days and yet we are bombarded with secular preaching all the time. God's wisdom is considerably better than ours. We just need to sit quietly still and listen.."after the fire a still small voice".
